System: DnD 4.0
Class: Invoker
Level of Build: 9 (could be made as early as 4th level)
Books Required: Players Handbook 2, Divine Power, Arcane Power, Adventurers Vault 1 and 2
Build Requirement: Feats – Arcane Prodigy and Dual Implement Spellcaster, Item: Armor of Sudden Recovery
Example Character Sheet: Kasha the Sadist

This is one of my more interesting builds, capatilizing on the loophole that Sorcerers get to use Daggers as Impliments. The basic requirements are to use the multiclass feat Arcane Prodigy to get access to Daggers as Impliments. Then Dual Impliment Spellcaster feat to use two of them to cast spells. Now you can have two daggers with different proporties that both apply to the spells you cast along with increasing the damage by both thier bonuses. This makes for alot of fun combinations though I focused on increasing the ammount of ongoing damage and reducing their chances of saving.

The other fun thing to do with the build is the first level Daily Power Execration along with the Armor of Sudden Recovery. The Power will put 10 ongoing damage on one or two enemies but will give you ongoing 5 damage. Using the Armor right after will convert that damage to Regeneration 5. With the character’s current Items and Abilities, you can get this to 14 ongoing damage to the enemies with saves at a -5 for the first round and -4 thereafter ontop of giving you Regeneration 9.

With all this, we cannot forget the other abilities of an Invoker. A powerfull asset as a Controller with the At-Will and Encounter Powers at hand. This will help save you for the low AC casters usually come with. A few things of note is that I tried to get mostly powers that hit only enemies within thier area. The others you will have to be carefull of where your allies are or else you might ‘accidentally’ hit one or two…

Sorry for the delay in the Character Spree, I have been a bit busy. Here is the continuation of the DnD 4th Ed seriese of characters:

System: DnD 4.0
Class: Ranger
Level of Build: 7
Books Required: Players Handbook, Martial Power, Eberron Player’s Guide
Build Requirements: Feats – Beast Protector, Mark of the Sentinel
Example Character Sheet: Scar the Unshaken and Lizzy the Lizard

When all the expansion books came out, they each gave some nifty new class features. Rangers seemed to have gotten the shorter end of the stick combat wise with the Beast Companion. A lot of the limitations really hinder the ability of this class from being a Striker to being a more out of combat support character. Being the person I am, I took this as a challenge rather than just shake my head it it.

The focus of this is Opportunity Attacks, Defense and Mobility. I would love to use a line of these as NPCs defending a castle or on the battlefield. The feat Beast Protector allows you to make an Opportunity Attack against a target that attacks your Beast Companion. Combining that with Mark of the Sentinel which allows you to shift before or after Opp Attacks on top of a Total Defense action makes you more a mobile Sentry.

Total Defense normally only gets you +2, but the beast companion features lets you get a +3 to both you and your Beast as long as your next to each other. Then take into account a Defensive weapon and a Companion slot item, you can really stack it up. In this case, the character goes from the normal 22 AC to 27 AC while the pet goes from 22 AC to 26.

This is a highly Defensive build that still allows a decent amount of damage to be sent out among enemies. While not so focus fired as most strikers, with a good round you can get attacks against multiple enemies. When your not being attacked, you can use Encounter and Daily powers to make them regret it. Besides just dolling out the damage, those abilities also let you hinder your opponents movements. Making a well rounded character to support a group with.

While five people is the ‘perfect’ group number, that doesn’t always happen. Just in case there is that sixth person or you want to play something different, here is another option for you.

System: DnD 4.0
Class: Rogue
Level of Build: 7
Books Required: Players Handbook, Monster Manual, Eberron Player’s Guide
Build Requirements: Racial – Shifty, Feat – Mark of Passage
Example Character Sheet: Boots the Disregardable

The combination between the Shifty at will power that Kobalds get along with the Mark of Passage lets you Shift 2 with just a minor action. This is highly useful before the feat, now makes a great tool to escape or just flank an enemy. The rogue is made more to come in late to a fight. Having snuck around the battlefield to hit where not expected.

Filling out the group a bit more on the skills end, the character is good use both in and out of battles. The utility powers and items make good use of those skills in battle as much as out. Between stealing an item with the Dagger of Thievery or moving to hide behind all the enemies without being seen at all. Even caught, the abilities are geared to keeping Combat Advantage to get as much Sneak Attack in as possible.

Background: He had been captured by the 5-man group trying to steal from them. He was found more useful than troublesome as the adventure progressed. Though it was a fine line he worked in order to acquire more goods while working for the group.

Quotes:

Boots “It wasn’t me this time, I swear!” Sophia “Says the one with Wizard’s gloves, I know you poked me…”

“Ahhhh the angry kitty is after me!”

The last but not least member of the party brings the womanly touch to the bleak life of adventures. Initially intending to build a character off the auto-crit encounter power, I found an interesting avoidance build. Bringing in a hard to hit character that can also hit hard herself.

System: DnD 4.0
Class: Avenger
Level of Build: 7
Books Required: Players Handbook 1 and 2, Divine Power, Forgotten Realms Player’s Guide
Build Requirements: Feat – Righteous Rage of Tempus, Race – Human
Example Character Sheet: Sophia the Untouchable

The original build was going to be to maximize the guaranteed critical hit from the Devine Channel power. Righteouse Rage of Tempus lets you get an auto-crit on your next attack as long as you hit. The Oath of Enmity lets you roll twice to hit the target, increasing the chances of success. The Rending Executioner’s Axe makes easy work of the attack.

The side build was when I wanted 3 at-will powers for adaptability. Then I remembered humans let you do that. The other bonus was the +1 to all Defenses (except AC). Add in the +1 to all from the class and +2 from a neck piece. Then get proficient with Leather which stacks on top the +3 class bonus to AC (+4 with feat) and +2 armor. Well you get the point.

Background: While not of the same order as the other Divine characters. She has been ’sent’ to help them, though the others joke about her just wanted to be around strong men. They can’t deny the strength of a woman’s Wrath brought to the battlefield. Which is why they do most the chores.

Quotes:

“Why hello there Boys, hope you don’t mind a lady with a big Axe coming along…”

“Have you met my god? You know, just the one who likes War and Killing…”
